Letter from the MinisterDear Friends, Both Services this morning are conducted by Mr James Webster. Jim is a reader of the Church of Scotland, attached to Cathcart Old Parish Church of Scotland. I’m sure you will welcome him warmly into the fellowship of Priesthill and Nitshill Parish Church. The reason Jim is with you today is because I’m elsewhere! My old parish - King’s Park - is celebrating its 80th Birthday today with a special service, and my wife and I have been invited to be with them. When we celebrated the 75th Birthday, I was the Minister and we had a whole variety of different events and projects to mark that significant milestone. It will be good to be back at KP today. It will also be good to be back with you next week. Two of our ladies are presently in the Southern General -Mrs Mary Rodgers (Ward 54) and Mrs Mary New lands (Ward 3). I know you will keep them in your prayers. One of the (many) signs of God’s Spirit at work in Priesthill and Nitshill Parish is the number of AA Groups who meet in the Priesthill Road Centre each week. In my first charge, in Renton in Dunbartonshire, we had an AA Group meeting, and I learned that, at the heart of the AA fellowship, there is a truly spiritual programme. This, I believe, is entirely in tune with Jesus’ Message of the unconditional love of God. With every good wish, Stewart FLOWERSTo-day’s flowers in the sanctuary at Priesthill Road are in memory of a loved one. HAITI EARTHQUAKE APPEALGreat thanks to all who over the last two Sundays enabled us to contribute the quite excellent sum of £396.20 to help the people of Haiti. GUILD Unfortunately the number of those regularly attending Guild meetings has dropped to seven. Most organisations with such a small number would close but not so our ladies. They have to be congratulated for carrying on and endeavouring to increase their numbers. While they do need our help and support at all times, there are two particular events in March where success will depend on the presence of many of our members. They are as follows:- (1) Friday, 5th March at 7.30p.m.- World Day of Prayer at 100 Priesthill Road (2) Wednesday, 31st March at 7.30p.m.- Easter Service at 100 Priesthill Road Let us try and get along to these services or at least one of them. We would all benefit. After being closed for the winter months the Guild re-opens in March for regular spring meetings at 7.30 p.m. in Dove Street. The first meeting is on 3rd March when the speaker is Rev Tom Houston. COMMUNITY HALL ACTIVITIES A Valentines Dance will be held in the Community Hall on Saturday, 13th February in aid of Quarriers, which we all know as a charity providing support and care not only for children but also adults and families. The cost is £5 payable on entry and the evening starts at 7.30 p.m. and finishes 11.30p.m. Support of this event will be appreciated by the local organiser. EROS MUSICAL SOCIETY Through the years many of our members have greatly enjoyed this Society’s productions. This year their choice is “Guys and Dolls” in Eastwood Theatre, Giffnock from Monday 22nd to Saturday, 27th February. Margaret Thomas will be pleased to supply further details of available tickets and their prices. If you are interested it would be wise not to delay speaking to Margaret, or phoning her at 881 5433 KIRK SESSION Secretaries of all Committees of Session are reminded to pass minutes of their meetings to Douglas MacLaren, our Session Clerk no later than to-day, please.
